I ran into Maritiza at Millennium park, riding a public share bike from
Chicago B Cycle . She spoke mostly Spanish and was visiting family in Chicago for the holidays. She loved riding around the park and downtown, but thought the rental rate was a little expensive.
Wait, Chicago has a bike share??
ReplyDeleteI thought that Gabe Klein had just set out an RFP for one....
Well, as far as I can tell this is not a city sponsored bike share. Its through a company Bike N Roll that offers bike tours in the touristy areas of downtown. But still its a start.
ReplyDeleteB-Cycle was a "pilot program", launched in summer '10. Only 100 bikes at a handful of kiosks, all downtown. The rates are quite high, especially when you compare it with really successful systems like dublinbikes or Montreal's BIXI.
