Two Can Pedal, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

One of my favorite things about cyclists in Vietnam and Cambodia is that when two people are on the same bike, they often BOTH pedal.  It was such a cute idea and very egalitarian.  Instead of the American focus on individual strength, it shows the core belief in working together.  Its cool to see that attitude manifested in such a simple act.

  1. How do they (practically speaking) do that?

Do they have extra wide pedals? Does one push on the other's feet?

I like the idea, but am puzzled..

  2. Well, as a general population, I think they have smaller feet. Usually, the "driver" takes the inside and up foot position, and the "passenger" takes the outside and back foot position. sometimes they just stack one on top of the other!
